CYBERSECURITY JOB HUNTING GUIDE
Unlock unique skills

How to gain "Bonus" knowledge
A bonus knowledge is a unique skill-set that you can bring into a company. Most companies write job postings, and they do not mention special things.
Do you want to become a penetration tester? Why not adding a drone certification? DroneSec (dronesec.com/) offers the DSOC certification, this is a unique skill, and few people have something similar. The certification and knowledge are expensive, but if you do research, you can get the understanding for under $25.
Do you target a SOC job in a cloud environment? Try to get Microsoft’s SC-200 or do the free learning path. It is a SOC certification for Azure. If the company uses cloud or even Azure and in an interview, you can talk about it… a vast advantage.
Do you know why I created this project? The main point is to share my knowledge to help you, but I am building and showing a unique skill set with this project.
There are so many ways to stand out with a unique skill. You have to find this on your own. Look at your job history. Did you do something special, and it is security-related? Try to transfer your skills into something precious. One additional example: You built houses and installed IoT. You have hands-on with IoT; this is an enormous advantage if you use it right. Everything with IT has a security concern.
A different bonus knowledge could be: OT/ICS (Industrial control systems) and SCADA. If you have something like this in combination with security, you might see offers like this:

The offer indicates a high base salary, but the recruiter knows how rare such people are. This job offer is the highest realistic salary for a job where I have the skills.
This offer has some downsides but without SCADA/ICS I would not have seen such an offer.
