There are many free resources in the Cybersecurity field; you should try them before you spend money
You can use free resources to increase your knowledge and value. Cybersecurity offers a lot of free (or affordable) resources. Here, I talk about the red and blue part but do not forget, Cybersecurity is much more than that. On the red side, we have countless options in different fields. The following picture shows a selection, and you can see how big the red side is:
This picture looks massive, and most likely, it is overwhelming.
Creating a path
A clear path is missing. Let us say you want INE's eCPPT penetration testing certification, but you love to study on your own. Why should you pay $750 for the course? If you organize the picture into a path or timeline, you might get something like this:

If you take this path, you are ready for the eCPPT exam, and you have a solid understanding to start OSCP. Most course providers use free resources and stick them together to have a pleasant path to go. You do not pay for the knowledge because all tools have YouTube videos or free guides. If you take a course, you pay a convenience fee, and you can use a more or less prepared lab. This path is cheap. If you pick the most affordable offer and do all free things first, you might get the knowledge under $50. The eCPPT certification is extra, you can take it if you have $400, but it is optional.
The blue side
The blue side has its own list. It was harder to get blue knowledge for free in the past, but this changed dramatically over the last year.

The two newest affordable blue resource are BTLO (blueteamlabs.online/) with 12 free modules and a premium area and RangeForce's free Community Edition (go.rangeforce.com/community-edition-registration).
This is not all, and you can find more free resources and certs here:
For beginners in IT
I overload you? That was the purpose of it! Cybersecurity is enormous, and therefore finding a goal and a path is very important. Is it easy? Yes, if you follow the hyped path, consider taking an alternative approach.
Maybe find something with mobile devices, automation, cars, etc... because it is much easier to stand out if you have less competition. The disadvantage is: You need more research.
