The advantages of volunteering in Cybersecurity
Volunteering is a double-edged sword because you get work experience, but it is unpaid. Some companies take advantage of your work and make money without giving something back.
You can find some ideas in the following picture. Remember, I arrived in the US without knowing someone; therefore, I know you engage in volunteering too.

If you get an offer to volunteer, check the background first. Sometimes I get a proposal for an internship, but the company charges $1,500 for offering a Network+ video course. This strategy is a rip-off. You do not want to deal with such people because they can rip you off too.
Most of the time, getting a better volunteer job requires preparation work in advance. Have enough knowledge to do the tasks and if you want it, apply for it. You do not have to write a formal application, but you need to talk to the right people. Community Managers, Directors, CEOs, or other people with the right power are the options.
Start with simple things, like discord or forum support. If you want the better stuff like free courses and certifications, your name should be a brand, and companies trust you already. Trust is necessary because you test unpublished products. Beta testing is my favorite volunteer activity because I can learn advanced things for free, in exchange for my detailed and valuable feedback.
